LASER DENTISTRY

What is laser dentistry?

Laser dentistry uses lasers in conjunction with other dental instruments to perform highly precise surgeries and at the same time minimize risk and healing time for the patient. Lasers can also be set to a specific frequency to only cut through gum and tissue, leaving any bone completely free from harm. Basic dentistry tools such as drills and burrs are not as precise, for which reason they can have longer healing times.

How does a dental laser work?

A dental laser is set to a specific wavelength and frequency that acts as a cutting instrument for different types of tissue. Lasers can be used in this fashion because infrared light is easily absorbed by water, and gum tissue consists largely of water [source: Parker]. What’s more, thanks to the amount of concentrated heat that lasers create, they can also be used to kill bacteria and treat gum disease.

What kind of lasers do you use?

We use top-of-the-line technology in laser dentistry tools: The WaterLase iPlus™ by Biolase. BioLase is the world’s leading innovator in dental lasers, with thousands of lasers in use in operations around the globe. Learn more here.

What are the benefits to laser dentistry?

Virtually Painless, More Natural Dentistry*
Heat, vibration and pressure are the primary causes of pain associated with the use of the traditional dental drill. Since cutting both hard and soft tissues (teeth and gums) with the WaterLase does not generate heat, vibration or pressure, many dental procedures can be performed nearly pain-free with fewer shots, less need for anesthesia, less use of the drill and fewer numb lips! Additionally, using the WaterLase for gum procedures reduces bleeding, post-operative pain, swelling and the need for pain medication in many cases. It’s just a better way to get your dentistry done!

*Discomfort is based on individual sensitivity to pain, and other factors. Not all patients can be treated painlessly without anesthetic. However, dentists using WaterLase to perform typical cavity preparations report not using anesthetic in the majority of cases.

Less Bleeding & Swelling
Due to its conservative cutting action, the WaterLase performs many soft tissue (gum) procedures with little or no bleeding and less post-op swelling.

Fewer Dental Visits
Since you often do not need shots or anesthesia, a WaterLase dentist can perform cavity preps in all areas of the mouth in just one visit. This technology also gives trained WaterLase dentists the ability to perform many procedures that were previously referred to specialists, saving you time and hassle as you address the dental needs of you and your family.

Accuracy & Precision
WaterLase dentists are able to remove tooth enamel decay (the hardest substance in the body), bone and gum tissue precisely while leaving surrounding areas unaffected. This conserves more of the precious tooth structure you were born with, helping you to maintain your natural teeth longer!

Reduced Trauma
High speed drills can cause hairline cracks and fractures in the teeth that eventually lead to future dental problems. WaterLase reduces damage to healthy portions of the tooth and minimizes trauma.

Versatility
The WaterLase is extremely versatile. It can be used for a wide range of hard and soft tissue procedures. From decay removal, cavity preparation, root canals, smile design, gum and bone surgical procedures and many others. With expert knowledge and proficiency using WaterLase Dr. Elbaz and The Beverly Hills Center offer you a one stop shop!

Frequently Asked Questions

Laser dentistry is offered as a treatment option at an additional cost if we feel it is of benefit to our patients, or if it is requested and/or recommended by our patients’ referring dentists. Our treatment coordinator will provide a cost estimate of laser dentistry for your specific needs prior to scheduling the appointment.

Laser dentistry is now very common, with practice since the 1990’s. As lasers can take the place of drills and burrs, their prevalence is growing, with application in many different treatments and procedures. The benefits compared to traditional tools are advancing the demand among doctors and patients alike.

Nearly any procedure that requires a drill or burr can be performed with a laser. A few of these procedures are: Root canals, dental implants, biopsy procedures, crowns, wisdom teeth removal, gum grafts, cold sores, etc.

Instead of using cutting saws or drills, lasers are used to remove gum tissue. The precision that comes with a laser allows for a near painless experience. Patients may not need local anesthesia when lasers are used, and recovery times are reduced.

Customer Testimonials

“My favorite dentist of all time! Laser treatment is a miracle. My gums now are strong and pink. I will have my teeth my whole life now. I am 80 and I am so happy that Dr. Elbaz has taken care of me for almost 40 years. Besides being the best dentist ever, he is also caring, kind, happy, understanding. Actually with the 4 check-ups a year that I have, I see him more than most of my friends.” Marlene G.

“Want the best? Here he is. I’ve been to multiple Periodontics. My gums were a mess and needed implants and a bridge. This office is state of the art and Dr. Elbaz is on the forefront of both equipment and knowledge in the field. Honestly, Look no further if you want the best. His prices are reasonable and you are well taken care of. What more can you ask for. Be very careful of an inexpensive dr., You will pay in the end both with your health and you’re having to redo cheap work. Do it once and do it right.” John A.

“Dr. Elbaz is wonderful! I had laser gum surgery and every step of the process was handled with total care and professionalism by him and the members of his amazing staff. I also get my teeth cleaned at his office, and the hygienists who do the work are great, too. I honestly can’t recommend him enough. And my teeth look and feel awesome!!!” Jackie M.
