PIEZOSURGERY

What is PIEZOSURGERY®?

When it comes to cutting bone, you can use traditional burs and saws, but they do not differentiate bone from soft tissue. PIEZOSURGERY®, on the other hand, is a special instrument and technique that only cuts bone. This preserves the soft tissue, which allows for reduced discomfort for the patient and faster post-operation healing times. The PIEZOSURGERY® technique was first introduced in 2001. Over two decades later, oral surgeons have perfected this technique, and at the same time the instruments have been refined and updated. As an oral surgeon/certified periodontist, Dr. Elbaz has performed many surgeries using the PIEZOSURGERY® technique with much benefit to his patients.

How does PIEZOSURGERY® work?

PIEZOSURGERY® provides oral surgeons the ability to make micrometric cuts for minimally invasive surgeries. The PIEZOSURGERY® instrument uses special ultrasonic microvibrations that will only cut bone, leaving soft tissue free from harm or damage.

What kind of PIEZOSURGERY® instruments do you use?

We use the latest Mectron™ dentistry tools. This company has been creating the PIEZOSURGERY ® touch since 2001, and they are currently on the fourth generation. Learn more at here.

What are the benefits to PIEZOSURGERY®?

Surgical Precision
In contrast with burs and saws, which are characterized by mechanical vibrations and limited control, PIEZOSURGERY®’s cutting action is based on microvibrations, which allow maximum intra-operative control and tactile sensation, allowing surgeons to perform efficient, flawless surgical procedures.

Safety
PIEZOSURGERY®’s patented dual wave technology is designed to efficiently cut bone while preserving soft tissues, even in the case of accidental contact. Where burs and saws don’t discriminate between mineralized and soft tissues, PIEZOSURGERY® provides surgeons with greater control and safety. Whether you are working in proximity to nerves, mucosa or other delicate structures, you can count on PIEZOSURGERY® to allow you to cut only what you want.

Reduced Trauma and Faster Healing
When a surgeon uses PIEZOSURGERY® instead of conventional instruments, there is a significant acceleration in the healing response: inflammation is more controlled, there is a significant early increase in bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) levels, and faster new bone formation. Because PIEZOSURGERY® respects soft tissues and reduces intra-operative bleeding, the overall iatrogenic trauma is reduced, with immediate, tangible patient benefits. Patients don’t loose as much blood, don’t experience as much post-operative swelling, and overall report reduced discomfort associated with the surgical procedure.

Efficiency
Faster and better osseointegration (the process of connecting an implant to living bone), in addition to the preservation of all soft tissues, translates to a quicker procedure for the patient.

Dr. Elbaz is able to perform select procedures using this technique including crown lengthening, periodontal therapy, ridge expansion and implant site preparation. One of the most common procedures, however, is tooth extractions.

Sometimes teeth must be removed because of the pain and long-term complications of cavities or trauma. The procedure involves separating the tooth roots from the surrounding bone and removing the tooth from its socket. PIEZOSURGERY® reduces complications, pain, and swelling in surgical extractions.

Customer Testimonials

“After my dentist removed three of my wisdom teeth, my face was swollen and I could barely open my mouth… When the last tooth had to be pulled, I went to see a periodontist. The doctor explained he was going to use a new instrument named Piezosurgery, which would make me swell less and reduce pain. I liked my previous dentist, but after the extraction at the periodontist’s office my recovery was much faster!”

“My granddaughter insisted I see a doctor who used Piezosurgery® when I needed 6 teeth extracted. She arranged the appointment and I went, as suggested. The following day she called me to ask how I was feeling and I had no pain or swelling whatsoever. Thank goodness she knew the best place for me to go for this procedure. I’ve heard horror stories about tooth extractions and I had no pain, stress or anxiety of any type.”
